I wish I never went for nature call that night, laments Alego man attacked at night after visiting latrine

ALEGO USONGA: Going for a nature call on June 8 at 11 PM turned into a nightmare for Joseph Onyango Ogelo in Central Alego location, Siaya County.

The majority of homes in rural areas have latrines constructed outside, and unbeknownst to Ogelo, some people were lying in wait with a sinister motive.

As he made his way back from the latrine, a group of assailants intercepted him, dragging him several meters from his house before launching a vicious attack with machetes and pangas.

Left to die by his attackers, Ogelo, according to an incident report obtained by Nation, endured a brutal assault.

“Having visited the toilet to answer a call of nature on 08/06/2024 at 11:00 PM, he was intercepted by unknown individuals who forcibly took him to a distant thicket and attacked him using a panga,” stated the police incident report.

In his desperate state, Ogelo attempted to call for help while bleeding profusely, as recounted by his uncle, Lawrence Onyango.

“He was left to die because, according to the attackers, he could not survive the injuries inflicted on him. It’s only by grace that he’s still alive,” remarked Mr. Onyango.
