Gen Zs online not happy with Bungoma Gen Zs after Didmus Barasa’s heroic welcome

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa was compelled to strip off his jacket, shirt, shoes, and socks as he surrendered to a group of young people, known as Gen Zs, who insisted on ‘greeting’ him for voting yes for the Finance Bill 2024.

He was among the 195 legislators who initially supported the now-retracted Finance Bill 2024, leading to speculation that Gen Zs might subject him to the same treatment as other supporters of the bill.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the lawmaker handing over his attire to the youths accompanying him.

Despite the unconventional welcome by the Gen Zs in Bungoma, Barasa received praise online rather than condemnation, unlike other MPs who have faced confrontations and attacks for their stance on the bill.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Barasa assured them that his development projects in Kimilili would continue without interruption.

“We will establish our Huduma Center in Kimilili; the funds are already secured in the bank. Whether the bill is withdrawn or approved, the resources will remain available for our use,” he affirmed.

“I am also a Gen Z and I understand you, I am a Gen Z senior,” he added.

This however infuriated the Gen Zs online who described the fellows in Bungoma a let down.
