Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai is mourning the untimely death of his mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, who perished in a fatal road accident on Sunday, July 21, in Machakos County.

The tragic incident occurred at Kithimani along the Nairobi–Garissa Highway, where the vehicle she was traveling in veered off the road and plunged into the Yatta Canal. Kanini, who was headed to Nairobi from her home in Zombe, Kitui County, died on the spot.

Confirming the heartbreaking news on his official X account, the lawmaker wrote:

“With a heavy heart, I share the heartbreaking news that I have lost my beloved mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, in a tragic road accident at Kithimani… God, who gives, has taken away. Rest in peace, Mama. You were loved.”

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the car had three occupants—two women and a male driver—when the accident occurred. Authorities are yet to release further details about the cause of the crash, as investigations continue.

The loss has sparked an outpouring of sympathy, with leaders and constituents alike sending condolences to the Mbai family as they come to terms with the devastating loss.
