Kenya Risks Losing CHAN Quarter-Final Over Fan Trouble

Kenya could be stripped of the right to host one of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 quarter-final matches if crowd trouble at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, continues.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the CHAN 2024 Local Organising Committee (LOC) are facing mounting pressure, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) closely monitoring fan behaviour.

Both FKF and LOC have denied selling physical tickets for the tournament, insisting that access is restricted to digital ticket holders.

However, matches against DR Congo, Angola, and Morocco have been marred by repeated security breaches, with supporters flouting CAF’s pre-tournament restrictions.

CAF security reports have detailed chaotic scenes at Kasarani, including unauthorised entry, overcrowding, and obstruction of officials — incidents that have already earned Kenya hefty fines.

The latest warning from CAF raises the stakes, with the possibility of relocating a quarter-final fixture if safety concerns are not addressed.
