Kikuyu Campus Tragedy: Student Arrested for Roommate’s Fatal Stabbing

A University of Nairobi student has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of his roommate following a disagreement over cleaning duties at their hostel on the Kikuyu Campus.

The tragedy, which occurred on Tuesday, has prompted an immediate investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

DCI officer Omondi Ogola confirmed the incident, stating that detectives were dispatched after receiving a report from a campus security officer.

The victim, a third-year student, was found with serious stab wounds inside their shared room and was rushed to PCA Kikuyu Hospital. He was, however, pronounced dead upon arrival.

“We suspect that death was caused by a stab injury,” Ogola said, noting that preliminary findings indicate a verbal argument between the two students tragically escalated into a violent confrontation.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, and police have since recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon.

He was arraigned in court on Tuesday as police sought custodial orders to allow for further investigation.

“We are yet to establish a motive for this attack. Once these investigations are complete, we will be recommending charges,” the DCI officer stated.

The victim’s body is being preserved at PCA Kikuyu Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as police continue to work closely with the university administration.
