Gor Mahia once again proved they possess the “comeback credentials” of champions, scoring deep into stoppage time to claim a crucial 2-1 victory over Bidco United at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The stakes could not have been higher. Entering the match level on 33 points with arch-rivals AFC Leopards, K’Ogalo knew that anything less than a win would hand the initiative to their neighbors.
However, for much of the afternoon, it looked as though Bidco United, nicknamed “The Oilers”, would play the role of spoiler.
Bidco started with a disciplined, low-block defensive strategy that frustrated the league leaders for the opening 20 minutes.
Their patience paid off in the 26th minute when Tomas Wainaina floated a pinpoint cross into the box.
Brian “Odoo” Mboya rose highest, beating keeper Bryne Omondi with a powerful header to give Bidco a shock lead.
Trailing at the break, Gor Mahia emerged for the second half with renewed intensity.
The pressure finally told when Emmanuel Assifuah found the equalizer, igniting the Kasarani crowd and setting the stage for a frantic finale.
As the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark and into seven minutes of added time, Bidco appeared to have done enough to earn a point.
But in the 97th minute, the stadium exploded into a frenzy after Paul Ochuoga found the back of the net in the dying seconds, sealing a result that keeps Gor Mahia atop the table on goal difference.
This victory, Gor’s second comeback win in three outings, puts immense pressure on AFC Leopards and cements K’Ogalo’s reputation as a team that simply refuses to be beaten.
