The Siaya High Court has found Vincent Ochieng Ongoro and his co-accused, Chrispine Kennedy Awambo, guilty of murdering Jared Ongoro Odhiambo. The murder took place on September 4, 2023, at the River Nzoia bridge in Siranga sub-location, Siaya County.

The court’s decision was based on several key findings: Justice David Kemei noted that the prosecution presented seven witnesses, proving the case against the duo beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court placed Chrispine Kennedy Awambo at the scene of the crime, while Vincent Ochieng Ongoro was linked to the planning and organization of the murder.

The case turned on the arrest of a boda boda rider, Michael Omondi, who was found in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone.

Michael Omondi, who became a prosecution witness, testified that Awambo hired him to travel to the River Nzoia bridge, where he witnessed Awambo kill Jared Ongoro.

Afterward, Omondi was driven to a business complex owned by Vincent Ochieng Ongoro, who paid him and warned him to remain silent.

Prosecution witnesses established that the brothers, both successful businessmen, were involved in long-standing business and family rivalries, with both having filed complaints against the other at the local police station.

The two convicted individuals are scheduled to be sentenced on July 3, 2026.

The verdict drew varied reactions from the Ongoro family, with some members expressing bitterness while others, including the deceased’s widow, Judith Anyango, and his brothers, John Fabian Ongoro and Fredrick Ochieng Odhiambo, welcomed the court’s decision as the delivery of justice.
