Chemical assault: how my jilted ex-lover, NIS officer, planned acid attack on me

A terrifying trail of stalking and financial coercion left behind by an intelligence operative culminated in a horrific acid attack against 25-year-old Claire Ochieng, exposing the deadly stakes of a woman trying to escape an abusive relationship.

The assault, which occurred on February 17, 2026, left Claire with severe, life-altering chemical burns across her face, chest, and arms after she rejected an ultimatum from her ex-lover, an officer attached to the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Speaking to Citizen TV, Claire revealed that the violence was the final stage of an obsessive campaign that began when she ended their four-year relationship in April 2025 and relocated from Nairobi’s Umoja Estate.

By October of that year, realizing she would not return willingly, the officer shifted from desperate romantic gestures to aggressive financial intimidation.

Demand for refund

He demanded an immediate refund of over Sh300,000 spent during their courtship, ordered the return of all gifts, including her phone, clothes, and eyeglasses, and even demanded she resign from her job because he had helped her secure the position.

When Claire asked for time to raise the cash, the officer offered a chilling alternative: drop her stance and reconcile with him, and the entire debt would be instantly forgiven.

She stood her ground and refused, prompting the operative to begin tracking her movements closely.

The obsession escalated in November 2025 during her trip to Mombasa, when the suspect abruptly transferred half a million shillings into her mobile money wallet for “safekeeping” despite her explicit refusal.

Claire scolded him the following day, firmly telling him that money could not buy her affection and demanding he reverse the transaction.

The tracking culminated in a catastrophic chemical assault on February 17, just weeks after one final, failed attempt to bribe Claire with a high-end iPhone.

“So I told him, ‘Take this phone, use it for your own good. But as for me, I will get my own phone when I want to,'” Claire recalled.

Her refusal triggered an ultimatum tied to her career. Because he had helped her secure her job, he demanded she step down. “He wanted me to resign,” she said. “He told me, ‘If you’re done with the relationship, you’re done with everything.'”

According to Claire, the February acid attack was the climax of a relentless campaign of violence involving seven previous physical assaults, though only three were ever reported to the police.
