Just ten days after burying their infant on May 28, the family of Joseph Ochieng Origi is reeling over the nightmare of someone stealing the body of an infant.

This bizarre incident that was witnessed at Kamhinda village, Komenya-Kowala sub-location in Siaya.

Mr. Origi remains haunted by the disturbing sight that greeted him on the morning of June 7th. As dawn broke at 6 am, he discovered a ghastly scene: the grave where he had laid his infant son to rest just ten days prior was now gaping open, the tiny body gone without a trace.

Only a short while had passed since the heartbreaking loss of his newborn, who succumbed to breathing complications merely three hours after birth at the Siaya County Referral hospital.

In an emotional interview with Nation Reporter, Mr. Origi recounted the tragic events. “I lost my son mere hours after his arrival into this world. He was my third child. We buried him, leaving his fate in God’s hands,” he shared.

For Mr. Origi and his family, the burial was meant to bring closure, a necessary step towards healing. However, the desecration of the grave shattered their fragile peace, plunging them back into a state of grief and confusion.

“We were slowly beginning to cope, accepting the inevitable loss. But the intrusion of someone taking our child’s body in the dead of night has left us paralyzed with fear,” he added.

The gruesome sight that greeted him that fateful morning defied reason, leaving Mr. Origi puzzled as to the motives of the perpetrator.

“While tales of newborn kidnappings are sadly not uncommon, the theft of a corpse from its resting place is beyond comprehension,” he remarked, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Adding to the horror, Mr. Origi revealed that the body was taken without the clothes it had been buried in. The garments lay discarded by the grave, a chilling reminder of the violation that had occurred.

“It feels like a nightmare from which we cannot awaken. The body was stripped of everything, even the socks he wore. It’s incomprehensible,” he lamented.

Authorities were alerted, and the matter was swiftly reported to the Mwer Police post. However, as investigations continue, Mr. Origi and his family remain gripped by fear and uncertainty, grappling with the inexplicable loss of their child’s remains.
