Celebrated Ohangla musician Owino Evance Ochieng, popularly known as Prince Inda, received the prestigious Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) award from President William Ruto during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
Prince Inda was among 142 Kenyans recognized for their exceptional contributions to various fields.
In the creative industry, actresses Brenda Wairimu and Sarah Hassan were also feted in the same category.
Known for his groundbreaking achievements in the music industry, Prince Inda has not only established himself as a celebrated Luo artist but has also expanded the Ohangla genre beyond the Luo community.
Collaborations with artists such as Bahati and Samidoh have elevated his status as a versatile musician, showcasing his talent to a wider audience across Kenya and beyond.
The OGW award is conferred on Kenyans who have significantly contributed to placing the country in the global spotlight through their work and achievements.
Other awards presented during the ceremony included the Order of the Burning Spear, which recognizes outstanding public dignitaries, professionals, and exemplary public servants.
This award is categorized by seniority into Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).
Prince Inda’s recognition reaffirms his status as a cultural ambassador and a testament to the growing influence of Kenya’s creative arts sector on the global stage.
