KISUMU: The Kisumu County Government has marked a milestone in its basic and technical education sectors following the official induction of 120 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers and 25 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) instructors into the county’s workforce.
The induction ceremony, presided over by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili, marks the official deployment of the new educators as they begin their teaching journeys across various institutions in the region.
Speaking during the event, Dr Owili highlighted the sustained progress the current administration has achieved since taking office, expressing confidence that the new cohort of educators will drastically improve the quality of foundation-level and technical training in the county.
He explained that the county’s educational transformation strategy rests on a three-pronged approach: expanding infrastructure by building more centers, ensuring classrooms and workshops are well-stocked with modern learning materials, and robustly investing in human resources to drive the curriculum.

Dr Owili was accompanied at the event by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, John Awiti.
Speaking exclusively to Kondele News, Mr. Awiti emphasized that the recruitment drive is a vital part of the county’s ongoing efforts to optimize classroom sizes and improve instructional quality.
He noted that while the ideal pedagogical standard is a teacher-to-learner ratio of 1:20, Kisumu has made progressive strides by bringing its current ratio down to 1:42.
Acknowledging that the sector remains a work in progress, Mr Awiti reiterated the administration’s long-term commitment to further closing the staffing gap and fostering a better learning environment for the county’s youth.
