Second body of a missing fishermen retrieved in Kilifi County

MAGARINI: Authorities have officially concluded a two-day search-and-rescue operation after retrieving the body of a second fisherman off the Magarini coastline.

The two victims, including 20-year-old Joseph Randu Nzai, had set out on Friday morning aboard a small canoe from Muyu wa Kae Village in Magarini Sub-County, but failed to return to shore.

The disaster unfolded on Saturday when Nzai’s body was spotted floating in the Indian Ocean, prompting an immediate investigation by police from Marereni Police Station and DCI detectives from Magarini.

Joint rescue teams continued scouring the waters until the body of his colleague was located and retrieved the following day.

Both bodies have since been transferred to the Malindi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted as police finalize their inquiries into the fatal drowning incident.
