Siaya Governor James Orengo has criticized a faction within the opposition that is advocating for a broad-based cabinet with the ruling party, asserting that this approach has reached a dead end.
In what appears to be an effort to dissuade the ODM party from engaging in talks with the head of state, Mr. Orengo remarked that the credibility of the Kenya Kwanza leadership has significantly diminished and no longer commands respect.
“I want to address those eager to align with President Ruto: he is a passing cloud, and I say that without any hesitation. Firstly, he lacks financial resources because he has been borrowing extensively, and Kenyans have made it clear that further borrowing is unacceptable,” said the county chief.
He made these remarks while speaking to mourners at a burial ceremony in Siaya town for one of the victims who was shot by the police.
Mr. Orengo further noted that President Ruto is at a critical juncture where he cannot impose additional taxes on the public.
“Remember, there is no high taxation; Kenyans forced him to retract the Finance Bill. Therefore, no additional revenue will come from taxation,” he added.
The county chief, who is also an experienced lawyer, emphasized that President Ruto has lost the trust of both the Kenyan people and the international community.
“President Ruto has lost the confidence of the international community. So, where can he lead us? Nowhere but into a sinking ship,” Governor Orengo stated.
He continued, “I urge everyone to understand that aligning with President Ruto is a disaster. It is, in fact, an abomination because it will not succeed.”
