Pain as a body of 17 year-old student discovered dumped in Yala, Siaya County

The innocent path to education in Yala, Siaya County, was stained with tragedy this yesterday Tuesday May 27, morning.

Children on their way to school stumbled upon a scene that would forever shatter their sense of safety: the body of a seventeen-year-old girl, a fellow student, discarded near the Nyamninia KBC compound.

The sight of her partial school uniform spoke of a violent struggle, a life cut short in the most brutal way.

As police investigations begin, the community grapples with the devastating loss of a young life and the chilling realization that the journey to knowledge has become a perilous one for their daughters.

The shocking incident occurred barely 300 meters from the deceased’s home.

Charles Wafula, Gem sub-County Police Commander confirmed that his officers processed the scene before removing the body to Yala sub-County Hospital morgue.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Barely a fortnight ago a similar incident occurred at Midhine in Sagam area of the the same sub-County when a Form Four girl heading to school at dawn was sexually vandalized before being murdered.

The two incidences have now raised concern among residents whether it’s ethical to require schoolchildren in the rural areas to report to school during wee hours of dawn.
