KISUMU EAST: A swift operation by police in Kisumu East has led to the recovery of a government-issued firearm believed to have been stolen during the highly attended burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County, last Sunday.
Acting on a critical tip-off from members of the public, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Kasagam Police Station successfully raided a hideout in the Mbeme area on Saturday afternoon.
During the operation, four male suspects were apprehended.
The recovered weapon, a loaded Jericho pistol, was reportedly snatched from Police Constable Benson Kodia, an officer attached to the Kakamega Governor’s security detail.
The theft occurred amid chaos as the officer was escorting the Governor to his official vehicle following the funeral service, a high-profile security breach that had immediately prompted a wide-scale search.
The four men are now in custody as the DCI proceeds with the investigation.
