Robbery suspects stage a movie-like escape from police custody

Two robbery suspects from Kisii County orchestrated a dramatic escape from police custody after being arrested at a bar they had allegedly broken into with the intent to steal.

The bar owner, who reported the break-in, filed a complaint at Ramasha Police Station.

“A group of gangsters had broken into the premises with the intention to steal. Officers from Kiamokama Police Post responded swiftly and arrested four of the gang members,” stated the police report from Ramasha.

The suspects were being escorted to the police post when two of them, who were handcuffed together, managed to flee.

In the chaos, one suspect successfully dislodged the handcuff and escaped.

“While being escorted, two handcuffed suspects ran away. During the escape, one of them freed himself from the handcuffs,” the report added.

During the pursuit, a police officer attempting to recapture the suspects was assaulted.

“A male officer from Kiamokama Police Post gave chase, but the suspects attacked him with blunt objects they picked from the roadside. The officer sustained deep cuts to his head and face. He collapsed due to the impact, allowing the suspects to escape with the handcuff. The injured officer was rushed to Faith Model Hospital in Kiamokama Township for initial treatment before being referred to Kisii Level Six Hospital for specialized care,” revealed the report.

The remaining suspects, identified as Kings Jacob Nyagaka (18) and Bifon Nyagaka Mogusu (20), remain in custody awaiting further legal action.

Efforts are underway to trace the escaped suspects and recover the missing handcuff. Investigations into the incident continue as authorities work to enhance security measures.
