Former MP in court for selling non-existent land in Karen

NAIROBI: Detectives from the DCI’s Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) have arrested former Mathioya Member of Parliament, Francis Njakwe Githiari, for allegedly defrauding a couple of Sh6.4 million.

The arrest took place yesterday at Githiari’s residence in Karen following an investigation into a botched property deal in Ngong.

The dispute began after the couple contracted Githiari, who was acting as both the land seller and the building contractor, to purchase a parcel of land and construct a double-storey house for a total of Sh40 million.

After the couple deposited an initial Sh6.4 million, they discovered that the land was the subject of an ongoing ownership dispute in court.

Sensing a “red flag,” the buyers halted payments and sought help from the authorities.

Following a review of the evidence, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has approved charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Githiari is currently being processed and is expected to appear before the Milimani Law Courts tomorrow, May 15, 2026.
