Allow me look for another party, Senator Sifuna signals departure from Chungwa party

Weeks after losing his post as Secretary-General in the chaotic fallout following Raila Odinga’s death, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken with ODM, asking his supporters for a green light to seek a new party platform to anchor his campaign for the presidency.

Speaking on Sunday during a Linda Mwananchi rally at Posta Grounds in Bungoma Town, Sifuna urged his supporters to endorse his search for a fresh party platform following a bitter fallout with ODM leadership.

“My people, allow me to look for another political vehicle and support it because that is the vehicle that will take us to the ballot,” Sifuna told the crowd.

Sifuna’s declaration comes weeks after he was stripped of his position as ODM Secretary-General alongside his Senate leadership post. Addressing the crowd, Sifuna likened the post-Raila Odinga power struggles within ODM to a family torn apart after losing its patriarch.

Sifuna accused internal opponents of fracturing the party for selfish interests following Raila’s passing, alleging they raided the institution for personal gain.

Despite his removal from key party roles, Sifuna expressed confidence in a political turnaround, declaring that “in less than 12 months, everything I have lost will be restored.”

Dismissing claims that financial constraints would derail his presidential bid, Sifuna stated his campaign is being funded directly by citizens via public paybill contributions, prioritizing accountability to ordinary Kenyans over high-value donors seeking political favors.

The Bungoma rally turned into a show of coalition strength as high-profile opposition leaders formally backed Sifuna as the Linda Mwananchi presidential flag bearer.
